Port Charlotte Florida

Charlotte Harbor and more than 165 miles of waterways leading to and from the harbor plus the Peace and Myakka rivers offer more waterfront living choices than most any area of the country. The name Charlotte is a tribute to Queen Charlotte Sophia of England. Her husband was King George III.

Consistently listed among the best places to live by the likes of Money Magazine, U.S. News & World Report, and Gulf Digest, Charlotte County and its only city, Punta Gorda, were hard-hit by Hurricane Charley in 2004, only to come forth as even more worthy of all its accolades. In 2008, Punta Gorda was named one of the best places to retire by U.S. News & World Report.

New and rebuilt houses today meet the most rigorous standards of construction and energy efficiency.

Fishing, sailing, and boating are considered by many as the best in a state known for such water sports.

Charlotte County schools consistently rank well and include some of the newest school buildings in the state.

Its Charlotte Town Center is one of the state’s larger shopping malls, regularly drawing shoppers from Sarasota to Fort Myers to its many stores, restaurants and offices.

From Charlotte County, most of the state’s leading road trip destinations, including its famous theme parks, are less than three hours away.

Cultural venues such as found in Venice and Sarasota and to the south in Fort Myers, are even closer and include the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre and the Murder Mystery Train in Fort Myers.

In addition to many parks, the Charlotte County Cultural Center, Fisherman’s Village, the Visual Arts Center, Florida Military Heritage and Aviation Museum, Babcock Wilderness, and the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center, Charlotte County is the new spring training home of the Tampa Bay Rays major League baseball team. The championship team will train at the Charlotte Sports Park on El Jobean Road in Port Charlotte.

Though unincorporated, Charlotte County has city amenities and a subtropical lifestyle.
