The Permit or Trachinotus falcatus Here is a gorgeous permit caught in the Florida Keys,  the permit or Trachinotus falcatus is in the Carangidae family along with Jacks and Pompanos, they are color gray, dark or iridescent blue above, shading to silvery sides, in dark waters showing golden tints around breast; small permit have teeth on tongue (none on pompano); no scutes; dorsal fin insertion directly above that of the anal fin; 17 to 21 soft anal rays.   My friend Gary caught this redfish in Charlotte Harbor using his new flats boat.  His fishing report went like this.  2 redfish, 2 sheephead, and 30 sea trout.  Southwest Florida is truly a fishing paradise.
